Windows 10, KB5000842 update arrives to boost file explorer performance

A new optional Windows 10 update is offered by Windows Update. Named KB5000842, it is intended for PCs running Windows 10 20H1 or 20H2. It can be retrieved manually via the Catalog Update online service.

Update KB5000842 for Windows 10 20H1 or 20H2

KB5000842 is an optional Windows 10 update. Its installation allows the OS to progress to version 19042.906. This number is important because it helps to ensure that the installation was successful. You can find it by running "winver.exe" in Run (WIN + R).

Going back to KB5000842, we don't have any new functionality. Microsoft offers several fixes and improvements for File Explorer to improve its performance. To retrieve this update you have several solutions.

It should normally appear in the "Optional quality update available" part of the "Windows Update" service after checking for updates.

The second solution is to go to Microsoft's Catalog Update site to retrieve it manually.

Windows 10 and KB5000842

Its installation is supposed to correct several problems, some of which concern Zoom, HDR mode and video playback in duplicate mode if multiple monitors are present. Microsoft fixes the bug affecting the File Explorer search module while offering solutions for issues around the touch keyboard with portrait mode and 7.1 channel audio technology. We also have fixes for performance issues caused by "explorer.exe". In certain situations, excessive consumption of system resources is observed, which obviously affects the general performance of the machine. Finally, this cumulative update should normally resolve a problem with the mouse or keyboard crashing when files / folders synchronized with OneDrive are deleted.

You will find all the details at the end of the article. Note that if you are not affected, it is not recommended to install this update. The best is to wait for the next patch Tuesday scheduled for April 13.
