The download of WinSetView adjusts the folder view in the file explorer of Windows 10 across systems and thus ensures a uniform display.
The free and open-source tool simplifies the definition of a specific representation of files and folders - for example, the detailed view with certain columns - and ensures that this is applied uniformly for all folders. Here we offer the current version of WinSetView from April 3, 2021, as a download.
WinSetView download & installation
WinSetView does not need to be installed and can be used directly after unzipping the downloaded archive. The tool works under Windows 10 (32-bit / 64-bit), whether it is also compatible with older versions of the operating system is not communicated by the developer. Administrator rights are not required, as only the view for the currently active user profile is changed.
To open the graphical user interface, you only have to start the WinSetView.hta file contained in the archive. All settings can then be made from here. The exact functionality is explained in detail on the corresponding Git Hub page. Most of the points are largely self-explanatory.
Uniformly change the folder view in Windows Explorer
With the corresponding points, users define the desired view in the Explorer. You can choose from Details, List, Tiles, Contents, Small Icons, Medium-sized Icons, and Large Icons. File extensions can also be shown or hidden and the grouping of contents switched off. The latter option is used by default in the Downloads folder, for example.
In the next section, you can also determine the columns used in the detail view. WinSetView offers a selection of 16 frequently used options. In the last section, the view for the "This PC" and "Network" folders can also be customized.
Apply and reset adjustments
A click on the Submit button is sufficient to apply the settings. During the process, the Explorer is restarted, but a complete system restart is not required. However, the developer recommends closing all running programs before applying your own settings.
WinSetView loads the last used configuration via "Last Run Settings". In addition, the default values or backups, which the tool automatically creates before each change, can be restored at any time.
