[Update 29-03-2021]: Briefly informed: Microsoft has now made the final version of Project Reunion 0.5 available for download. Compared to the preview, stabilizations have been made in the individual applications.
- Building desktop apps with WinUI, including .NET 5 for Win32 apps, is possible
- Chromium-based WebView2 control
- Support for custom title bars
- ARM64 support
- SwapChainPanel
- More on this here and also the article on the remote pivot function
Microsoft itself has written a long article in blogs.windows that deals with the project.
[Update 21-03-2021]: At the beginning of March, the Microsoft team made Project Reunion 0.5 available for download as a prerelease. However, the list of changes did not go down well with some. Because the pivot function had been removed.
That is why there was a discussion on GitHub that led to the need to reintegrate the pivot function for the time being. This should be the case in April. The statement said, “The reason we removed Pivot wasn't because of its low usage - we removed it because we wanted to develop the product (and the Fluent design itself) in a different direction .... Regarding external numbers (third party providers) it is not being used very heavily, so we thought - mistakenly - that we could remove it without causing a lot of stress. "
“That was obviously a misjudgment. The mistake is my (Ryan Demopoulos) responsibility, and from now on I will endeavor to coordinate with the community to the best of my knowledge and belief that we are removing any features. There will be times when we want to change product direction, and Pivot is a good example of this: we want to get away from Pivot in the long term and have better alternatives for it. But we also owe it to you, our community, to consult with you before we take such action, and to listen and adjust our solutions so that you are not completely abandoned. We failed to do that and I apologize for it."
It's interesting to see what a change in the community can trigger. But since Microsoft has some teams on GitHub and is in close contact with the members there, specially made and sometimes incorrect changes are quickly withdrawn.

[Original 09-03-2021] In February we reported that after the WinUI 3 Preview 4 the Project Reunion 0.5 will come. Now it has already been seen in the Microsoft Store as a prerelease, but it can also be downloaded.
Since the 0.5 should appear in March, the timetable (roadmap) has been adjusted and some functions have been moved to the upcoming Reunion 0.8, which will then appear in May 2021. There will certainly be a contribution from Microsoft on the changes to the new app. But the new roadmap already shows what is possible and what is not.
Project Reunion helps you update and modernize your existing applications with the latest features, whether it's C ++, .NET (including WPF, Windows Forms, and UWP), or React Native. As we decouple existing APIs and add new APIs, we also do the work on polyfill if necessary so that the lower-level APIs work across all supported Windows versions.
[Update]: Here are the contributions from Microsoft with the bug fixes and the announcement.
The app is currently not available in the Microsoft Store itself. But it can already be downloaded if required. And that's how it works:
- Go to store.rg-adguard.net and then from left to right.
- ProductId | 9nbl709vvmlx | RP can stay | Click the checkmark.
- Here you can choose from Microsoft.ProjectReunion.0.5-Prerelease 0.52103.8000.0 as an appx for the x64, x86 and ARM64.
- The appx can then be installed manually as normal with a double click. Windows 10 1809 or higher is required.
