Many of you are probably familiar with the Universal MediaCreationTool or MediaCreationTool.bat from AveYo (BAU). With this tool, you can choose which Windows 10 ISO to download from Microsoft.
This is very practical because the original MCT only ever offers the current version. AveYo has now improved its tool again. Not only that the Windows 10 21H1 (19043.867) is now also available, but also other changes.
He added a new “Create Media” preference. If you select this, you will be taken directly to the Select USB or Save ISO dialog. If you boot from the medium, the selection of the edition is skipped.
The automatic upgrade has also been revised again. “This allows the script to wait in the background for MCT to complete the first phase of creating upgrade media. As soon as this is done, it starts the second phase of setupprep (via auto.cmd) and then exits. This enables a seamless upgrade without any intervening prompts. "
As a bonus, the language, edition, arch (32- or 64-bit) and key can also be set here in order to update to a different edition than the current one. This is possible with Windows 10 2004, 20H2 and 21H1, since all three versions are based on Windows 10 2004 (19041). AveYo tried many variants in the tests. Forward (upgrade to a higher version), Back (downgrade to an older version) with retention of files, applications and settings (if the language and arch are compatible.
Apply automatic upgrade
If you start the MediaCreationTool.bat as always, you also have the choice, as you know it up to now. From Windows 10 1507 to Windows 10 21H1. After the selection, the MediaCreationTool starts as you know it.
- For an automatic upgrade, all you have to do is rename the * .bat.
- auto MediaCreationTool.bat starts the update to the latest Windows 10 version. Currently the 21H1
- auto 2004 MediaCreationTool.bat starts the automatic update to Windows 10 2004
- auto 2009 MediaCreationTool.bat starts the automatic update to Windows 10 20H2
While I was writing this text, I downgraded my Windows 10 21H1 19043.899 in the VM with the auto 2004 MediaCreationTool.bat. As AveYo described it, it worked without any problems. I am now on the road with 19041.572. Folders on the desktop are available. Apps like the terminal and others are still there.
Logically, Windows Update will start immediately and import the current update. But the action worked without any problems.
