Xbox Game Pass: is Microsoft taking care of the Battlefield 6 hammer?

According to new reports, Microsoft is said to have secured the rights to an upcoming AAA shooter for the Xbox Game Pass. Insiders say that the Redmond-based company is keeping an eye on Battlefield 6, which is to start immediately as part of the game's flat rate.

Microsoft and Sony continue to work with (financial) high pressure to convince third-party studios to temporarily offer their titles in advance for the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 exclusively on the console. This has only happened now with the two games Outriders (Game Pass) and Oddworld: Soulstorm (PS Plus).

On the XboxEra podcast, industry insider Nick Baker speaks about the next prank that has been planned in Redmond for some time. Accordingly, Microsoft wants to secure an AAA shooter for its own Xbox Game Pass in the fall and winter season apart from Halo: Infinite.

Everything speaks for Battlefield 6 as a new Game Pass hit

Although Baker (aka Shpeshal Ed) cannot officially confirm the title, everything speaks in favor of the inclusion of Battlefield 6. So far, the criteria of a third-party title in AAA-style and the choice of a first-person shooter only meet two well-known ones Games that should find their way onto the market this year - Call of Duty (2021) and Battlefield 6.

Since Activision is likely to have entered into an exclusive deal with Sony and the PlayStation network, only Electronic Arts (EA ) as a potential partner. According to this, Battlefield 6 could already be available for the release in autumn 2021 via the Xbox Game Pass subscription. After the inclusion of Outriders and the takeover of the Bethesda parent company ZeniMax, the Battlefield 6 deal would be between Microsoft and EA the next big coup to strengthen the in-house gaming flat rate again.

However, it is unlikely that the Redmond Xbox players want to force the way into the Game Pass. Therefore, the next Battlefield title should also be available separately in the Microsoft Store and via many channels on the Windows PC (e.g. Steam, Origin, etc.). Nevertheless, one should be able to expand the customer base significantly. Game Pass is now approaching 20 million active users.
