One of the world's leading memory manufacturers, SK Hynix, has given the green light to the manufacture of a mega-factory that will entail an investment of around 106,000 million dollars.
The new mega-factory, which has been in the planning phase for a long time, will be located in Yongin, a city 50 km south of the South Korean capital, Seoul. The company expects to begin construction in the fourth quarter of this year, hoping that it will be in the year 2025 when everything is ready to begin mass production of DRAM memory. Regarding the size of the new mega-factory, the plant will have an area of 4.15 million square meters.
The mega-complex will be made up of a total of four factories, whose total production will be around 800,000 wafers per month.
These foundries will handle the production of conventional (current) DRAM memory and next-generation DRAM technologies, involving 600-layer 3D NAND memory, HBM, PIM and CIM memory. It is clear that the company seeks to replace Samsung as the largest memory manufacturer, and more at a time when this product is also in short supply, and that in the future it will increase its demand even more.
