Some time ago Microsoft announced that Windows Tools would be outsourced as apps. After that, not much happened for a while. Now Paint has been made available as an app in the Microsoft Store.
It may well be that the app will then be delivered directly with the new Windows 10 21H1 and replace the .exe. Notepad has already been replaced as an app, Windows Terminal integrated and Paint 3D completely thrown out.
The advantage here is that these tools do not have to be updated by the system updates. Updates can be made independently of this via the store. The Redmond-based company continues to pursue the goal of ridding Windows 10 of old tools and replacing them with apps.
