Microsoft's Edge is overtaking Firefox in terms of Popularity and grabs 3rd position

Not so long ago, Microsoft's Edge browser had a serious popularity problem. That has changed a bit in the meantime, however, and the browser has even overtaken the fading Firefox in terms of usage shares.

In particular, many users simply didn't want to know anything about the old Internet Explorer, as Microsoft had simply missed out on keeping up with the latest developments in the browser area for many years. Even the break with the new Edge didn't change that much at first. Google's Chrome and the free representative Firefox were very popular with users.

But especially since Microsoft switched to the Chromium basis, the Edge has become increasingly popular again. In the course of this year, the browser was able to improve its usage share according to the data from StatCounter from 7.81 to 8.03 percent. At the same time, the value in Firefox sank from 8.1 to 7.95 percent. So the Edge was able to move up to the third place.

Chrome and Safari firmly in the saddle

At the very top, however, Google's Chrome is undisputed and almost unrivaled. The browser comes here to 67.1 percent. However, Internet Explorer once had a market share of this magnitude or even significantly more. This shows that things can change quickly in the browser market.

Especially since the mobile versions are playing an increasing role - after all, smartphones have long since become the most important devices for users to access the Internet. But this is likely to cement the position of Chrome - after all, it is also the standard browser of the dominant Android platform. And also in second place in Apple's Safari in the desktop area - the browser comes in at 10.13 percent here - the mobile portion of iOS will primarily have an increasing effect.
