It was reported this week that ESIC member Ian Smith reported on the organization's collaboration with the FBI. According to him, the bureau is investigating a small group of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players from North America who were engaged in match-fixing.
According to Smith, players are bribed by the betting syndicate to achieve certain match outcomes, which makes the situation much more serious than the random initiative of individuals.
To a certain extent, we are working with law enforcement and the FBI, which recently has a department to investigate bet fraud. They are good at what they do, but so far they have little experience, as esports betting in America has taken on a large scale relatively recently, so everyone is just starting to understand this industry.
As a reminder, last January ESIC announced sanctions against 35 Australian CS: GO players who violated the anti-corruption code. Depending on the severity of the violation, players were banned for a period of 12 to 60 months. In the coming weeks, the commission will share all the details of this large-scale case.
