HWiNFO is a very popular tool for finding out the components of a computer. This free tool not only serves as PC information but also to find out the new components that may arrive in the future.
The HWiNFO application is going to be updated very soon, revealing official support for Raptor Lake-S processors, which represents the 13th generation of Intel Core CPUs.
Raptor Lake-S is the 13th generation of Core processors, which is going to succeed the 12th generation Core 'Alder Lake-S' on the desktop.
HWiNFO is now reporting that the Raptor Lake Platform Controller HUB (PCH) will soon be compatible with the tool. At this point, what we don't know is preliminary support based on the Raptor Lake-S documentation or whether it is support for early engineering samples that might be out there.
Recall that the Raptor Lake-S generation will not appear until the second half of 2022, with versions for laptops and desktop PCs. By then, support for DDR5 RAM and the PCIe 5.0 interface should be more than established, making the leap from Alder Lake-S.
The slide mentions support for LPDDR5X memories in notebooks and improved cache for desktop CPUs. Although not mentioned, the Raptor Lake-S generation of processors will continue to use a 10nm compute node.
Raptor Lake is expected to debut as the 13th generation of the Core series next year. The series should compete, by then, with AMD's Ryzen Zen 4. We will keep you informed.
