Windows 10: Microsoft is promoting Office products again in the Mail app

Microsoft had already used the mail and calendar app of the Windows 10 operating system several times in the past to bring its own products closer to users. Now the Redmond-based company has provided the application with links to several Office programs.

Anyone who has installed version 16005.13426.20688.0 of the mail and calendar app on their PC will now see the icons for Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The shortcuts were placed above the menu in the lower left corner of the program. As HTNovo writes, the icons were added with a server-side update. It doesn't seem to be possible at the moment to manually hide the buttons for the Office apps.

Microsoft has once again provided the mail and calendar app with advertising

The mail app already contains advertisement

However, the three Office icons are not the only advertisements that can currently be found in the Windows 10 Mail and Calendar app. A banner requesting activation of the premium functions of Outlook was placed above the icons. The button also redirects the user to the Office 365 page. A paid subscription can then be taken out there.

The Redmond-based group had already tested in 2018 how the advertising banners in the mail and calendar app, which is already included in Windows 10, were received by the users of the operating system. However, after protests by some users, the ads were quickly removed. At the end of 2019, Microsoft started a new attempt and advertised the mobile Outlook app or the GMail app. Even Office 365 members could no longer click away from the advertising.
