A new Windows 10 Insider is available for download. Today there is build 21337.1000 for insiders in the dev channel, more precisely 10.0.21337.1000 rs_prerelease from 03/12/21. Let's see what's new in this version.
With the virtual desktops, Microsoft has (now finally) created a possibility that you can assign your own wallpaper to each desktop. The setting for this is directed to Personalization -> Background by right-clicking on the virtual desktop -> select background.
The order of the virtual desktops can now also be changed using Win + Tab.
Auto HDR has now been incorporated for gamers. "When you activate this function on your HDR-capable gaming PC, you automatically get a fantastic HDR display for over 1000 DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 games!"
The file explorer gets a new view. This is called compact mode (is the details setting). “The UX for toggling this setting is not final. The level of the split is designed for better consistency with modern (XAML) experiences. This should also make working with the file explorer easier when using a touchscreen."
- Windows Terminal is now integrated into Windows 10 as an app.
- Power Automate Desktop is now integrated as an app in Windows 10. (Not currently available on ARM devices)
- Notepad as an app has been improved, has got a new icon and is no longer listed in the start menu under Windows accessories, but rather individually.
The main changes:
- We are now rolling out the new IME candidate window design for all Windows Insider I in the Dev Channel with Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Indian IMEs. We will let you know as soon as the rollout for the remaining IMEs increases.
- We're updating the emoji panel (WIN + period) to support searching in additional languages including Amharic, Belarusian, Cherokee, Filipino, Faroese, Icelandic, Khmer, Mongolian (Cyrillic script), Burmese, Sindhi, Serbian (Cyrillic script ), Serbian (Latin script), Swahili, Thai, Turkmen, Tonga, Uzbek (Latin script) and Cantonese (traditional). Please continue to provide feedback on emoji search results in the Feedback Hub under Input and Language> Emoji Panel.
- Live previews for web pages pinned to the taskbar by Microsoft Edge are now rolled out for all Insiders.
- Not mentioned, but probably there: Windows focus as desktop background is in Windows 10 21337
Known issues in Windows 10 21337
- We are investigating reports that the update process stuck for a long time when trying to install a new build.
- We're working on enabling the new system tray experience for existing pinned web pages. In the meantime, you can detach the webpage from the system tray, remove it from the edge: // apps page, and pin the webpage again.
- [Messages and Interests] We're addressing an issue where Messages and Interests may not be available if you log in to Windows without Internet access, but reappear when you're online.
- [Messages and Interests] Sometimes you cannot use the stylus to exit the Messages and Interests flyout.
- [ARM64] Insiders who have installed the preview version of the Qualcomm Adreno graphics driver on the Surface Pro X may experience a reduced display brightness. This problem will be addressed with an updated version of the preview graphics driver. If you encounter this problem, please refer to the feedback collection for more information.
- We are working to resolve an issue where some devices with Realtek network adapters with driver version 1.0.0.4 may experience a temporary loss of network connectivity.
- We're working to fix an issue where some high refresh rate monitors will only play games at 60Hz. Tearing can also occur on monitors with a variable update rate.
- The network flyout on the login screen does not open in this build, which prevents you from connecting to a new network before logging in. If your account is in a state that requires internet login, the workaround is to establish an Ethernet connection, bring the device within range of a previously configured Wi-Fi network, or use another available account first Sign in.
- We are working on a fix that Insiders reported in the previous build where devices with certain NVMe drives could experience hard drive resets or WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR errors. If you were affected by this issue in build 21332, you might want to pause the updates.
- We are investigating reports of an issue with some devices receiving DPC_WATCHDOG_ERROR bug checks. If you were affected by this issue in build 21332, you should pause the updates.
