Windows 10 20H2 / 2004: Fixed: Memory or hard disk space error when opening documents in Microsoft Office apps

Microsoft has added another problem for Windows 10 21H1, 20H2, and 2004 and immediately marked it as solved. There is a problem with the non-security update KB4601382 from 02/24/21.

This can lead to memory or hard drive space errors when opening documents in Microsoft Office apps. Microsoft itself describes it like this:

“When you open a document in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or another Microsoft Office application, you may receive the error message“ Microsoft Excel cannot open or save more documents because there is insufficient memory or hard disk space ”. This issue only affects devices that have installed Microsoft Office apps from the Microsoft Store and are trying to open a document that has the use of Protected View enabled. "

This problem is automatically resolved with the Known Issue Rollback (KIR). This function is possible for non-security-relevant updates. It can take up to 24 hours for it to be loaded onto the device. Anyone who is affected by the problem can also restart the computer once. Then the solution may be implemented faster.
