We have a new PCIe 4.0 SSD at the doors of the Transcend brand, the MTE240S, which seems to be focused on the mid-range of SSD in M.2 format.
Transcend MTE240S, new 500GB 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD
Transcend has announced the MTE240S SSD with the classic M.2-2280 form factor. Transcend's SSD takes advantage of the PCI-Express 4.0 x4 connection interface, which should provide data transfer speeds above standard PCIe 3.0 drives.
The controller that this unit uses is completely unknown, but it is 4-channel, to offer speeds that are far from the theoretical maximum that the PCIe 4.0 interface can deliver but above those of PCIe 3.0.
The MTE240S SSD will hit the market in two capacities, a 500 GB variant, and a 1 TB variant. The former has a 3800MB / s sequential read speed and up to 2800MB / s sequential write speeds. The specs mention about 190,000 random read IOPS in 4K and up to 540,000 random write IOPS in 4K.
The 1TB variant has 3,800MB / s sequential read, with up to 3,200MB / s sequential write. The SSD has 370,000 random reads IOPS in 4K, and up to 560,000 random write IOPS in 4K.
Endurance is a very important part of any SSD and Transcend is offering around 850 TBW for the 500 GB variants and up to 1,700 TBW for the 1 TB model. The company backs the MTE240S units with a 5-year warranty.
