The new Nintendo Switch would arrive this year with an OLED screen and a Dock capable of offering 4K

A new report from 'Bloomberg' indicates that the big N will launch a new Nintendo Switch in 2021 despite recently denying it.

A new Nintendo Switch is coming this year, according to Bloomberg. The report reinforces the rumors about the "Switch Pro" despite the company denying the launch of new hardware in the short term. However, the aforementioned media affirms that, according to sources close to the production chain, those in Kyoto plan to present and launch a renewed version of the console during 2021. Obviously, the proposal would come with some technical novelties.

First, Bloomberg makes mention of an OLED screen made by Samsung. The South Korean manufacturer will begin mass production of a 7-inch panel with 720p resolution in June. It is important to remember that the current model integrates a 6.2 ″ LCD screen, so we would see a significant increase in its dimensions. Not so in the resolution; The two versions of the Nintendo Switch that we currently find also offer a 720p experience in handheld mode.

The information, therefore, differs from other reports that anticipated a 1080p screen. Although the resolution would remain the same, incorporating an OLED panel has several benefits. The most significant, without a doubt, is that it will consume less battery, which is a key point in any portable device. On the other hand, an OLED panel allows offering higher contrast and a higher response time.

New Dock to reach 4K

Bloomberg anticipates that the Dock, the device that allows you to connect the Switch to the television, will make an important leap in terms of resolution. The new Dock would be capable of displaying 4K graphics, another rumor that has circulated since 2019. For now, the internal components that will make it possible are not specified. If the information is specified, Nintendo would be matching the resolution of the next-generation consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Regarding the launch, Nintendo would be confident that its console will reach the market by the end of 2021. As long as, of course, no problems arise in the production chain. Can the Japanese company overcome the manufacturing challenges facing Sony and Microsoft, among many other technology companies? If the plan runs smoothly, the new Switch would be available shortly before Christmas, the best-selling season for the video game industry.

The information causes some surprise because, as previously stated, Nintendo assured in early February that it had no plans to release new hardware anytime soon. March 3 marked the fourth anniversary of the launch of the Nintendo Switch, so times are adjusted to see the first major revision of the console - not considering the 1.1 that debuted in 2019 with minor news. Additionally, its arrival could coincide with the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a game with plenty of potentials to boost console sales.
