Redmi Note 10 Pro vs Redmi Note 9 Pro: what changes from one generation to another?

Xiaomi launched the new generation of its most popular middle line of the world, Redmi Note 10. The entire series brings some changes compared to the predecessors, and the Pro variant of this is evident on screen and camera, mostly.

For the rest, there is a lot of component upgrades or maintenance of the predecessor's characteristics. The good thing is that there is no significant downgrade, and both the construction, which combines glass and plastic and the battery, which has good capacity, were maintained. The design has changed a little and it is easy to differentiate each model when looking at them.

See below the comparison between Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro to understand what changes in the technical sheet and in the experience, to finally understand which one is more worthwhile at the moment.

Design and construction

While most manufacturers cut costs by adopting plastic finishes even on top-of-the-line phones, Xiaomi maintains the glass finish on the Redmi Note 10 Pro, as it did with the Redmi Note 9 Pro last year. It is not such an important feature for many people, but whoever wants this material is grateful.

The design has changed considerably, although the front keeps the selfie camera in a hole centered at the top of the screen. Behind, the cameras moved to the upper left corner, now in a set that highlights the main sensor, with a kind of silver frame, while the other three have a more discreet black background.

Xiaomi also claims that the device is IP53 certified against water and dust (basically a splash coating). There was no mention of any kind of protection in last year's model. USB-C and P2 connectors are present in both models.

Screen

  • Redmi Note 10 Pro: 6.67 inches, Full HD resolution (1080x2400 pixels), Super AMOLED, 120 Hz;
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro: 6.67 inches, Full HD (1080x2400 pixels), IPS LCD, 60 Hz.

The new generation display is almost the same as the old one, except for two fundamental details that should please a large number of users: the IPS LCD panel gives way to Super AMOLED, and the 60 Hz refresh rate, an industry-standard until recently, becomes 120 Hz.

Otherwise, the same thing: 6.67 inches and Full HD resolution, with the same aspect ratio and everything. It is the same as what was already a good size and Xiaomi brings two good news to the newest model, bringing more vivid colors, deeper black and greater fluidity in the reproduction of animations, videos and games.

Cameras

  • Redmi Note 10 Pro: 108 MP (main) + 8 MP (ultrawide) + 5 MP (macro) + 2 MP (depth) + 16 MP (front);
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro: 64 MP (main) + 8 MP (ultrawide) + 5 MP (macro) + 2 MP (depth) + 16 MP (front);

In cameras, there are also few changes. Apart from updating the sensors, the main one doubled the resolution to 108 MP, with f / 1.8 aperture. The Redmi Note 9 Pro has 64 MP with f / 1.9 aperture, a difference that, on the phone screen, should be little noticed, since it brings a little more sharpness, in addition to joining more pixels in one to generate images with less noise in low light environments.

The other cameras, ultrawide, macro and depth, and even the selfie, do not bring significant change. Even video capture was maintained at 4K at 30 frames per second on the main and 1080p with 30 frames per second on the front.

Processing and memory

  • Redmi Note 10 Pro: Snapdragon 732G Octa-core (2x 2.3 GHz Kryo 470 Gold + 6x 1.8 GHz Kryo 470 Silver);
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro: Snapdragon 720G Octa-core (2x 2.3 GHz Kryo 465 Gold + 6x 1.8 GHz Kryo 465 Silver).

The hardware has also changed little, being basically an upgrade from the previous model to something a little more prepared for the most common tasks of 2021. Of course, the Snapdragon 732G can handle more than just the simplest processes, it's just a way of explaining that the difference is not very big for the predecessor Snapdragon 720G, even the speed of the cores is the same.

In memory, UFS 2.1 storage has been replaced by a more recent version, UFS 2.2, but the options are the same: 6/64 GB, 6/128 GB and 8/128 GB.

In short, you can expect a reasonable speed gain on the Redmi Note 10 Pro compared to its predecessor, but nothing that would justify an urgent change from the old to the new.

Drums

  • Redmi Note 10 Pro: 5,020 mAh with 33 W wired fast charging;
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro: 5,020 mAh with 30 W wired fast charging.

On battery, the capacity was maintained at 5,020 mAh, while the charger's power increased slightly, from 30 W to 33 W. This means that the Redmi Note 10 Pro stays a few minutes less in the socket to fully fill the battery.

Regarding the time of use, it should be more or less the same, since although the Super AMOLED screen is more economical than the IPS LCD, especially in darker images, the refresh rate has increased. That is, you can expect something between one to two days of normal use on the Redmi Note 10 Pro, as it could already be extracted on the Note 9 Pro.

Extra features

Xiaomi intermediary phones do not usually deliver different features, but they do bring some differentiators to other models in the same price range. Just like the Redmi Note 9 Pro, the Note 10 Pro offers, at least in some markets, NFC and infrared connectivity, for payments by approach and to control other devices, such as televisions.

Redmi Note 10 Pro vs Redmi Note 9 Pro: which one is worth it?

As demonstrated, there are a few differences from the new generation to the model from last year, although one or the other point may be considered fundamental by one or the other user. Overall, however, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is a phone almost as good as the Note 10 Pro, and if you already have one, there's not much reason to spend your hard-earned money on the launch right now.

If your doubt is between one and the other, the way is to evaluate the price of each one and think if it pays for you to spend the difference to take AMOLED screen with better update rate, hardware prepared to take more time without any problem, and a camera with a little more resolution.
