Windows 10 users are reporting increased problems with the latest update, which was supposed to fix printer problems. There is now an installation problem so that the patch cannot be applied.
This installation issue is a bug that has haunted Windows 10 for months now. Users are offered new patches via the Windows update function and can also download them. In the following installation process, however, something goes wrong and the installation aborts. With the new hotfix update for the printer problems that occur after the patch from March, the error message "0x80070541" occurs. It is then displayed that you should try it again. Most of those affected do not achieve success even after multiple attempts.
The problem only with version 2004 and 20H2
For some users, the problem shows up at the beginning of the update procedure - then the new cumulative update cannot be downloaded in the first place. According to the online magazine Windows Latest, the KB5001649 update is currently affected. This patch is offered for Windows 10 version 2004 and 20H2. Now there are increasing reports of the installation bug, as more and more users want to install the update.
As far as is known, only users of the two Windows 10 versions from last year are currently affected. Other versions were also affected by printer problems. It has not yet been found out whether the error occurs only occasionally or whether certain hardware or software configurations are more severely affected. If you also noticed the installation problem, you can manually download the cumulative update from the Microsoft Update Catalog and then install it. Alternatively, the update can be paused (for example automatically for 7 days) if you want to wait for the next bug fix update from Microsoft.
