OnePlus has announced an agreement with the well-known photographic firm Hasselblad. The objective of it is to refine the cameras of the Chinese brand, which have never come to shine. The company has also announced an investment of 150 million for this purpose.
OnePlus wants to take a step forward in the field of photography, an area in which its smartphones have never finished shining. To achieve this, the brand of Chinese origin has announced this Monday a collaboration agreement with the well-known company Hasselblad that will last for three years and whose first fruit will be part of the OnePlus 9 series, which will be presented on March 23 at 15:00 (Spanish time).
OnePlus, in addition, has announced that it will invest 150 million dollars over the next three years with the aim of improving the cameras of its smartphones.
"With top-tier hardware, OnePlus computational photography, and Hasselblad's rich aesthetic knowledge in traditional photography, I am confident that the OnePlus 9 family will be a major step forward in our ability to deliver a premium flagship camera".
Pete Lau, founder and CEO of OnePlus
The company, in a statement, has detailed some of the first fruits of this collaboration. These include software enhancements related to color adjustment or sensor calibration. The objective, as detailed, is to achieve images with more precise and faithful to reality.
Another fruit of this union is the Hasselblad Pro mode, which will allow OnePlus 9 owners to have greater control when taking pictures. Among the parameters that it will allow to adjust are the ISO, the focus and the exposure times. This mode will also allow you to shoot 12-bit RAW photos.
The OnePlus 9 will also welcome a freeform lens that eliminates distortion in images captured at the wide-angle. The brand has also worked on a "T-shaped lens technology for ultra-fast focus on the front camera," according to the statement.
What will the OnePlus 9 be like?
Although the OnePlus 9 series will be presented on March 23, several reputable sources have revealed some details of this new family of devices. First of all, everything seems to indicate that the series will be made up of three different models. Their names are OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and OnePlus 9R.
The OnePlus 9R would be the cheapest model of the new family. Its name has been the subject of speculation for the past few weeks, but according to Evan Blass, it will eventually be marketed as the OnePlus 9R. In December, Android Central pointed out that this model would have similar hardware to what we found in the OnePlus 8T. This means that it would have a 120 HZ AMOLED screen, 65 W fast charging, a Snapdragon 865 processor, and the same cameras.
However, Qualcomm, weeks ago, revealed that OnePlus will launch a smartphone with the Snapdragon 870, a slightly improved version of the Snapdragon 865 that we found in the OnePlus 8T. It is possible, therefore, that the OnePlus 9R incorporates said chip instead of the Snapdragon 865 that Android Central mentioned at the time.
The OnePlus 9 Pro, on the other hand, would be the most advanced model of the brand. This, as XDA-Developers collects, would have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888, up to 12 GB of RAM, and UFS 3.1 memories. It would also have an AMOLED screen with QHD + resolution capable of dynamically varying its refresh rate (up to 120 Hz). The camera, given the association with Hasselblad, would also be one of its strengths, although the details leaked at the moment are scarce.
The OnePlus 9, finally, would be in between the two models mentioned above. According to TechDroider, it would have a Snapdragon 888, 8 GB of RAM, and a 6.55-inch FHD + screen with a refresh rate of 120 HZ.
