It seems that bad news is coming for practically all Netflix users, and that is that the company is testing a function that seems destined to stop the exchange of passwords between users who are not members of the same household. This movement was made known through an image of an email message that was shared on Twitter. This message asks users to sign up to get " their own free Netflix today " and was reported by various media that confirmed the test.
In the Netflix message shared on Twitter, the service states that " if you do not live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to continue viewing it ." That policy is included in the Netflix Terms of Use.
"This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so," a Netflix spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter.
Interestingly, the service appears to be incentivizing these users to sign up with the offer of a 30-day free trial of the service. According to a LendingTree survey of 1,546 American adults, 4 out of 10 respondents used someone else's account to access the streaming platform. In addition, the survey revealed that Netflix was the most popular account for "sharing", with 52% of respondents reporting using Netflix with someone else's login details.
