The day has finally arrived: tomorrow, Wednesday, AMD will present its new Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics cards in a virtual event that will take place at 6:00 p.m. Spanish time. Also, some sources indicate that AMD has waited so long for this launch because it was accumulating stock so that all users can buy this new GPU from the moment it hits the stores ... is it true?
We are all aware of the stock problem that all new generation products are having; the problems are affecting all manufacturers and not only AMD since NVIDIA itself has already made several "ghost" releases (they present the graphics but cannot be bought) and even the next generation consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X / S are out of stock in stores from the first minute. It is encouraging to know that AMD has considered this problem and has accumulated stock to avoid it, but to what extent?
The price of the Radeon RX 6700 XT
In the previous days we have been receiving a lot of information about the new AMD graphics, including the fact that it seems that finally, only this XT version will arrive at the moment and not the basic version, which will presumably be released later. Tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. we will finally know all the official details, but for the moment what has been leaked is the price: between 479 and 499 dollars for the reference versions (without and with OC), with the versions customized by the assemblers starting at $ 500. You already know that, in the end, this will translate into the same price in Euros, and that despite the fact that dollars are in the doldrums at the exchange rate.
The Radeon RX 6700 XT would be based on a Navi 22 XT GPU, probably with 40 CUs and 2560 Stream Processors with a total of 12 GB of dedicated graphics memory on a 192-bit bus.
The base model would be on par with the GeForce RTX 2080 Super, and compared to next-gen graphics it would be the equivalent of the RTX 3060 Ti, a graphics that works really well for games at 1080p and even 1440p resolution and that costs (or should cost) $ 399. The OC variant of the RX 6700 XT will offer higher operating speeds and would bring it closer to the RTX 3070 range in performance, but keep in mind that its TGP will go up to 230 watts.
Will there be stock this time?
With the rise of cryptocurrency mining coupled with a shortage of materials and manufacturing problems, stock issues for graphics cards and so many other consumer electronics products are the order of the day. It has been a well-known YouTube channel that has ensured that AMD has been stockpiling stock so that in this launch, users can buy a Radeon RX 6700 XT without problems, but they do not say where they got that information from, which, of course, it is unofficial from AMD.
So, as things are and with all the problems that we have been seeing for months, although this gives us some hope, we must be cautious and reticent, because there is a good chance that we will really find ourselves in the same situation again, and even if AMD really had more stock than in previous releases, for sure that miners and speculators will do their best to get all the stock they can, because also as you know AMD argued that these purchases were legitimate and that they were not going to move a finger to avoid them to defend the gaming community.
