NVIDIA once again stumbles upon another bug in the GeForce RTX 3060's mining limitations, and it involves using an HDMI dummy on one of the video outputs. Thanks to that, the GPU and driver handshake is broken.
The hash rate limit has been in the news in recent weeks, especially after the RTX 3060 was released. It has been verified that NVIDIA published the GeForce 470.05 drivers on its website, which omitted the hash rate, lifting all limitations in this regard. Later, he removed it, but it was too late because miners started uploading these drivers to many websites. Now, there is another way to lift that limitation, especially in RIG.
Mining with the RTX 3060 and an HDMI dummy, yet another method!
I had to try it out for myself, even though it's really obvious. An HDMI dummy bypasses the reduction in mining (#Ethereum) performance of the #GeForceRTX3060 as a secondary card. pic.twitter.com/HbfvtyPI9F

You never have to piss off a community too much, and the measure of limiting GeForce RTX 3000 graphics cards has not liked mining. The news comes from Andreas Schilling, the editor of Hardwareluxx, who has shared one more method to remove the hash rate restrictions.
In this case, you've used an RTX 3080 Ti as the primary GPU and the NVIDIA RTX 3060 as the secondary GPU. At first, it is appreciated how the ETH rate drops to 21-22 MH / s instead of operating at 50 MH / s, which is the performance that this RTX 30 offers. And it is that cryptocurrency mining platforms (RIGs) come with a very cheap GPU to use as a display adapter, while the other powerful GPUs mine.
The way to avoid this limit of the hash rate is solved with an HDMI dummy, that is to say, a “ false ” connector that tricks the driver into thinking that the other GPUs are running as display adapters. So just buy an HDMI skewer that goes nowhere on every GPU to fool the drivers.
Several Korean users have offered their demonstration using these HDMI adapters, getting the 50 MH / s, without any drop in the hash rate.
The news becomes more grotesque when we see the cost of an HDMI adapter: just over € 20. In the end, it is a bargain compared to the benefits it offers for mining.
It has not been tested with DVI adapters yet but is pending confirmation. In addition, a PCIe link of x8 or more is needed to avoid the limitation of the hash rate in Ethereum.
The issue is that the RTX 3080 Ti will be released soon (April-May), which will come with the limitations promised by NVIDIA. Here it is going to form a stir because it will be a GPU highly sought after among miners for its power, mainly. There has already been a craze for PNY RTX 3080s, so don't rule out another “fever” for this graphics card.
In principle, this "hack" would work with the RTX 3080 Ti, unless NVIDIA takes a new approach in its way of limiting the hash rate. Another of the RTX 3000 that is pending to come out is the RTX 3070 Ti, another model that will have many suitors.
What do you think of this? Do you think that NVIDIA has not prepared enough for this approach?
