In the last hours, Intel has confirmed that its Xeon 'Ice Lake-SP' processors are going to launch in April. This is the third generation of Xeon processors targeting data centers that not only improve overall performance but also add support for 5G networks.
Along with the announcement, benchmarks have been leaked for the Xeon Platinum 8351N 'Ice Lake-SP' CPU, which appears to have a huge performance advantage over AMD EPYC 'Rome' when using the AVX-512 instruction set.
The Intel Xeon Platinum 8351N seen is configured in a single socket and it is a CPU with 36 cores and 72 threads. The clock speed is 2.4 GHz and reaches a boost clock of 3.5 GHz. The amount of L3 cache is 54 MB to L2 cache is 45 MB. The TDP value is 225 W.
The new Xeon chip was tested in the SANDRA SiSoftware 2021 suite within the arithmetic and multimedia tests. Keep in mind that the multimedia test makes use of the AVX-512 instructions offered by the Ice Lake-SP CPUs, so we will see a higher gain compared to the non-AVX-512 chips.
Intel's Xeon Platinum 8351N CPU gets a score of 962.37 GOPS. When compared to the 32 cores in the AMD EPYC 7532, Intel's option gets a 19% advantage. In the multimedia test, the Intel Xeon Platinum 8351N is 65% faster than the AMD EPYC 7542.
Intel is expected to unveil its third-generation Xeon Ice Lake-SP on April 6, we will be attentive to all the information that emerges.
