Intel Eliminates Extended Warranty Focused On Overclocking Its CPUs

Intel had a warranty plan for its Core processors called the Performance Tuning Protection Plan (PTPP). The plan protected users against damage that could occur when overclocking Core CPUs.

Finally, without making too much noise, Intel is removing this warranty, so users will be fully responsible for damages caused by overclocking their Core processors.

Intel posted this announcement on the PTPP website.

To PTPP clients,

The Performance Tuning Protection Plan has been discontinued.

As customers overclock with more confidence, we are seeing less demand for Performance Tuning Protection Plans (PTPPs).

As a result, Intel will stop offering new PTPP plans as of March 1, 2021.

Intel will continue to focus on delivering incredible processors with tuning flexibility and overclocking tools like Intel Performance Maximizer and Intel XTU.

All existing plans will continue to be honored during the processor's warranty period.

Note on Intel Xeon W-31 75X processor

Xeon W-31 75X processor is automatically covered for overclocking, no additional plan or activation code is required

Thank you, PTPP Team.

The Performance Tuning Protection Plan was an essential guarantee for those with a Core 'K' model capable of manual overclocking. The plan required a small additional fee, which could cost between $ 20 and $ 30. In return, you had the assurance that Intel could replace your processor if it broke down during the overclocking process.

This guarantee may not have been as popular with buyers
