Google announced new features for its telecommuting suite, including a mobile-optimized version of Meet.
Google announced new features for Google Workspace to improve our telecommuting sessions. Among the options, a so-called Focus Time stands out a new type of event that will limit notifications for when we are focused on performing a task.
According to Google, one of the key trends they found among those who telecommute is the "juggling" between work and personal activities. Although some are used to organizing blocks of two or four hours, the reality is that the rest need support to concentrate better.
Focus Time will minimize distractions by not showing Calendar, Gmail, Chat, and Meet notifications in time blocks. In addition to that, workers will be able to access Time Insights, a tool to evaluate when we are more productive or procrastinate more. To avoid retaliation for the latter, Time Insights will only be available to the employee and not the employer.
Workspace will also enable other features to share availability and location with colleagues. The Calendar allows you to set the working hours so that you are not disturbed outside this block of time. In addition to that, the technology-enabled the use of the Google Assistant to access our calendar in the Calendar by voice. This feature can be used in both mobile phones and smart speakers and displays.
Google Meet can be used on more than one screen
Google announced that it is working on second-screen experiences on Google Meet, which will allow access to meetings from more than one device. For example, if we connect to the meeting from mobile or Nest Hub Max, we can present using our main computer without impediments.
In the case of mobile, the Meet Mobile interface will adapt to a small screen with two settings. The first is the mosaic view to view more people at the same time. The second is the implementation of split-screen or picture-in-picture to keep the meeting active while we carry out another task.
Google is also working on a solution-focused on frontline workers. According to the company, these people rarely have access to the same tools as the rest to inform themselves. To solve it, they will launch Google Workspace Frontline, a solution that combines Gmail, Chat, Docs, Drive, and more with security functions and enterprise-level support.
"From nurses to grocery store clerks to warehouse clerks, essential frontline workers have played a crucial and often heroic role during the pandemic," mentions Javier Soltero, director of Google Workspace.
The version for frontline workers will be available in the coming weeks, as will time management options for other users. The Google Assistant for Google Workspace can be used starting today.
