Google Chrome: Pin or remove reading list as a side panel

The last version of Google Chrome received the reading list as a pop-up menu. The unread or already read links are displayed here as well as the favorites.

Currently, in the Canary, a function has now been added to pin exactly this reading list as a side panel on the right. We know from Microsoft Edge when we pin a menu on the right. The side panel remains as long as the browser is open or you close it yourself using the small cross.

The function itself had already been integrated in October 2020 before the reading list was then integrated as a pop-up menu. But if you prefer to have it on the right side, proceed as follows:

  • Call chrome://flags
  • Search for Side Panel (# side-panel) and set it to Enabled
  • After restarting the browser, you can now open the reading list and it is pinned on the right as a panel.
  • And here is the result as an animation:

As a hint: If you don't like the reading list at all, you can remove it in the flags. Enter Chrome: // flags in the address bar and press Enter. Now search for "Reading List" and set it to Disabled.
