Elon Musk's Starlink begins its pre-registration stage in Argentina: It may be available this year

Good news for all those who suffer from connection problems and lack options: Elon Musk's satellite Internet, Starlink, could arrive in Argentina in 2021. The company has already started its pre-registration stage in the country, although it seems that it will be nothing cheap: Only the reservation to use the technology costs 99 dollars (it will be discounted from the installation kit), approximately $ 15,000 Argentine pesos in direct conversion.

The news came via email to users who had signed up to receive Starlink news, saying: "You can now make a deposit that will keep your place in line for future services."

Then they detail that users will be able to access connection speeds of between 50 Mb and 150 Mb with a latency of between 20 ms and 40 ms. "As we launch more satellites, install more ground stations and improve our network software, data speed, latency and uptime will improve dramatically," they say.

How do I check if it is available where I live?

Through the official Starlink page, you can start the process by entering your address, which will be subjected to a quick availability analysis.

If the area you live in is within the expected coverage range, you will get the following message: “Starlink is targeting coverage in your area by the end of 2021. Availability is limited. Orders will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis."

Please note that this fee is not the only cost to try Starlink. As we mentioned at the beginning, in the future users will have to buy an installation kit that includes an antenna and a router, which will cost $ 499 ( $ 400 if they have already paid the 99 pre-registration).

Although it is a comparatively expensive service, it turns out to be a dream for those who live in remote areas and without coverage of any kind.

As we saw last month, Enacom enabled the Starlink project through resolution 1291/2020 published in the Official Gazette. Therefore, the arrival of the service to the country will depend on how quickly SpaceX increases its number of satellites in orbit.

Starlink could be available in Argentina at the end of this year, although it won't be cheap at all. Are you going to hire it?
