CD Projekt President Adam Kicinski, as part of yesterday's presentation of the studio's updated strategy for the near future, mentioned the fate of the multiplayer component of Cyberpunk 2077.
Recall that in January 2020, the management of the Polish company referred to the network component of Cyberpunk 2077 as a full-fledged "AAA release" - a large-budget development, the creation of which takes place in parallel with the main game.
Since then, CD Projekt's plans have changed: "Before we hinted that our next AAA project would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk, but now we decided to revise that."
What exactly this wording means for the network component of Cyberpunk 2077 is not completely clear from Kichinsky's statement, so they returned to the question in a subsequent report to investors.
“When it comes to online, we are changing our approach because we definitely want to see [multiplayer] in our future games, but step by step. Therefore, we are working on special features that improve our single [projects], but our next game will not be a great online experience,” said Kicinski.
Earlier it was reported that the multiplayer component of Cyberpunk 2077 will include at least two modes ("Fight to the death" and "Robbery") and will be able to do without dedicated servers.
As part of its strategy overhaul, CD Projekt RED has also pledged to start developing several high-budget games at the same time from 2022 and to cut back on advertising campaigns for future projects.
