ASUS DG1 is a novel discrete graphics card that uses the Intel Xe-LP architecture that, so far, is used by Tiger Lake-U notebook processors.
ASUS DG1, present a low-end graphics card with Intel Xe GPU
The ASUS DG1 graphics card has 80 execution units (640 shader units), which is 128 FP32 ALUs less than a full DG1 GPU. Also, you'll be using the PCIe 3.0 x4 interface, so you won't need a full x16 slot, despite the image showing otherwise. ASUS may decide to remove those extra lanes in the final version of this card.
With the specifications that have been revealed, we expect this graphics card to be focused on the low-end, but what has surprised us the most are the requirements that it will have.
Intel revealed that DG1 desktop GPUs will need a special BIOS to work and, at the moment, ASUS has revealed that only two motherboards work with the graphics card, the models: PRIME H410M-A / CSM and PRO B460M-C / CSM. The acronym CSM stands for Corporate Stable Model, which is a series dedicated to business and corporate users.
At the moment, these two motherboards are the only ones that support Intel Xe graphics in desktop computers, but compatibility with other motherboards may come later.
This is the first step for Intel in the discrete graphics card market, waiting for more powerful GPUs that could arrive throughout the year 2021 and even 2022. We will keep you posted.
