Apple decides to discontinue the HomePod and focus squarely on the HomePod mini which has been a best seller.

Apple has made the decision to abandon and discontinue the original HomePod after four years. He has confirmed it through a statement made to TechCrunch, at a strange time of the week: a Friday and also in the afternoon. They will continue to make and sell the HomePod Mini.

The HomePod mini has been a hit since its release last fall, offering great sound, a smart voice assistant, and smart home automation control for just $ 99. We will focus our efforts on this product.

I think it is a serious mistake. The HomePods are hands down some of the best quality speakers I've heard for the price. Maybe that was always the problem. It is difficult to sell very good sound unless you are a specialized brand that reaches a consumer who already knows and assumes that they are expensive products.

In my review, I was totally amazed at the capabilities of the device and from an engineering point of view, something to admire. The team responsible for the product worked for five years to achieve such a level of sound quality in that size and shape. Maybe the $ 349 price was too much. Apple eventually lowered it to $ 300, but it wasn't enough.

The HomePod mini will keep going
