Samsung has just announced its new 50MP ISOCELL GN2 sensor with faster and more realistic autofocus. We will see this sensor equip the next smartphones launched by the company, however, it should be the Chinese competition to debut it on an awaited smartphone.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is expected to be the first smartphone to hit the market with the new ISOCELL GN2 sensor.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra - What is already known
Xiaomi is preparing to make known the most powerful version of its Mi 11, launched earlier this month. In fact, this model has already reached the mouth of the world, after a content creator for YouTube shared a complete video with the description of all the features and a complete tour of its design.
With this information, we learned that the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra will come equipped with three cameras at the rear and a small screen capable of mirroring the image of the main screen, thus facilitating the capture of selfies with the main camera and of higher quality.
In the set of cameras, it has been described that the main camera will be 50 MP with a wide-angle lens. The camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens will be 48 MP. Finally, the periscope and the telephoto camera will also be 48 MP, but with 10x optical zoom and maximum zoom up to 120x.
So, what 50 MP sensor is this? Yesterday's Samsung launch may be the answer.
Samsung's new 50MP ISOCELL GN2 sensor will arrive first with a Xiaomi?
Samsung introduced its new sensor for the 50MP smartphone camera, the ISOCELL GN2. It is the successor to the GN1 launched last year and comes with larger pixels, 1.4μm, better energy consumption, and a new faster autofocus technology, the Dual Pixel Pro.
In addition, the new sensor will allow you to capture photos at 100 MP through a rearrangement of pixels. Basically, the 100 MP photos will be a three-layer composition of 50 MP, in green, blue, and red, and then superimposed, enlarged, and merged to produce the high-resolution photograph.
The new sensor will also have Smart ISO Pro to create instant HDR images with fewer motion artifacts and video recording 1080p @ 480 fps or 4K @ 120 fps. The company confirmed that the sensor is already in mass production and, according to rumors, it will be able to equip the new Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, which has no release date yet.
The rumor came from the well-known Ice universe leaker on Twiter, where he simply writes “GN2 → Mi11 Ultra”

Considering the previous information, this rumor makes perfect sense. Furthermore, this would not be the first time that we would see Xiaomi debuting a camera sensor from Samsung. Remember, for example, the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 that was launched with the 108 MP ISOCELL HMX.
