Two independent statements by WandaVision's leading actors to the media about the involvement of a mysterious colleague have sparked speculation. Who can it be?
Long film sagas, by their sole trajectory, offer many narrative possibilities for their continuations. From reinterpreting important events or adding new pieces of your puzzle to recovering well-known characters. In WandaVision (Jac Schaeffer, 2021), the Disney Plus series, they have brought us back so far the obvious Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings). However, from the news we have, they probably won't be the only ones.
Paul Bettany: "I work with this actor who I've always wanted to work with, and we have fireworks together and the scenes are great."
A few days ago, London-based Paul Bettany stated the following for the Lights Camera Barstool film podcast: “So many things are leaked and people find out about certain things, but there is something that has been kept completely secret that happens, and I work with this actor that I've always wanted to work with, and we have fireworks together and the scenes are great, and I think people will be very excited. " Because "the scenes are quite intense." This means there is a major cameo on the horizon for WandaVision, perhaps from a regular from the Marvel Universe and with a fighting show included.
As if this were not enough, now his partner Elizabeth Olsen has responded affirmatively to TVLine to ask if the still unknown to anyone in importance in the distribution of WandaVision. Maybe she and Paul Bettany refer to the same person. But that would rule out one of the two actors being considered: Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange. And it would make a lot of sense since Scarlet Witch will appear in Doctor Strange 2: The multiverse of madness (Sam Raimi, 2022). The problem is that Bettany and Cumberbatch have already worked together on Darwin's Doubt (Jon Amiel, 2009).
The other performer being considered is American Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, who has not shared the frame with Paul Bettany before. Neither in Avengers: The Age of Ultron (Joss Whedon, 2015) nor in Avengers: Infinity War (Joe and Anthony Russo, 2018) was like this, so it seems possible that it is him. The only downside is that we cannot imagine how they could unite Vision and SHIELD's father in the fake Westview with scenes of great intensity. One is a superhero and the other, no, so a spectacular physical confrontation between both characters is more than ruled out.
Paul Bettany (Vision) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) already worked together on the film Darwin's Doubt (2009)
The rest of the actors of the UCM have seen the faces of Paul Bettany in the two mentioned films and in Captain America: Civil War (Russo Brothers, 2016). From Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), or Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton) to Don Cheadle (James Rhodes), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), or Paul Rudd (Scott Lang). Or not, like the cast of the two volumes of Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn, 2014, 2017 ). But neither does it give us the impression that the Brit would say that he has always wanted to work with Chris Pratt (Peter Quill) or Dave Bautista (Drax).
Maybe Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen are referring to different actors, or he is talking about a new addition
Or with Benedict Wong (idem), as we are. However, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo) could fit in. He plays a sorcerer like Doctor Strange who could well intervene in some way in WandaVision's magical Westview. And so will she, as Scarlet Witch, in the second part of the film in which she was introduced to us. In addition, he is a compatriot of Paul Bettany, which would give more meaning to his statements. Or maybe he was hinting at a new addition; to put a face on the villain Mephisto, for example. Or maybe it wasn't the same person as Elizabeth Olsen. We will know in a few weeks.
