Spring had been singled out as the release date for a browser version of xCloud, which will also be Microsoft's passport to reach iOS devices. Tests show that everything is ready.
Microsoft is finalizing the launch of the web version of its xCloud streaming game service. Company sources revealed to The Verge that the browser version of the service is already being tested by employees of the technology, anticipating therefore that a public version is coming soon.
xCloud was launched in September last year for Android and allows Xbox users to enjoy games for the console also on smartphones and tablets with Google's mobile operating system.
In December, the company confirmed that it was working to launch versions of the service for browser and iOS devices, pointing to spring as the expected date for the release of the news, which will extend the xCloud experience to the PC, but also to Apple devices.
It is recalled that, at the launch date of xCloud, Microsoft was unable to extend the service to Apple's mobile devices, via the App Store, due to the restrictions imposed by the company on the entry of new content in the application store.
At the time, a company spokesman said that Apple would have to confirm that all games available on xCloud, individually, complied with the rules of the App Store in order to validate the service.
According to The Verge, which shows the first images of this new web version of the service, the xCloud experience in the browser will be similar to the Android version. It will open with game recommendations, give access to all games available in the cloud via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and allow you to resume recently played titles, which still have to be played with an Xbox controller.
