Warner Intended To Release The Snyder Cut From 'Justice League' Without Visual Effects

Zack Snyder revealed the obstacles he went through to make the Justice League Snyder Cut a reality. Warner wanted to release it unfinished.

The Snyder Cut of Justice League is just around the corner. After a petition campaign, the long-awaited feature film will premiere on HBO Max and other HBO platforms on March 18. Although we already know a great deal of detail about Zack Snyder's vision by now, we recently learned an anecdote that has surprised the DC fandom. Believe it or not, Zack Snyder's Justice League was able to arrive without visual effects.

Can you imagine the long-awaited Snyder Cut making its debut unfinished? Millions of fans would have lit their torches to demand explanations. As ridiculous as it may sound, Warner Bros. at some point contemplated releasing the film without having completed a critically important post-production phase. Fortunately, Zack Snyder was adamant and refused the idea of driving a pitch under those conditions.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Zack Snyder himself revealed the rollercoaster of situations they went through to make the Snyder Cut a reality. When Warner finally listened to fan requests, they had to go to Zack Snyder to extend the proposal. However, at no point did the company consider making an additional investment beyond the feature film that hit theaters - the one directed by Joss Whedon.

The idea of the company was simple: launch the Snyder Cut exactly as it was stored on the director's computer. In other words: with custom post-production. Even more serious, Zack Snyder suggests that Warner intended to be the good character in history. If the footage was offered unfinished, many would think that Warner had been right for not releasing it earlier. But the director's commitment was not with the film company, but with the fans. They were the ones who drove the existence of the Snyder Cut.

The Snyder Cut and commitment to fans

The director made it clear that his footage could not be released incomplete. In fact, he dared to point out to Warner the reasons why they wanted to release it unfinished: "One, you take the internet off your back, which is probably your main reason for wanting to do it. Two, you feel vindicated for doing things right. , on some level. And three, you get a shitty version of the movie that you can point to and say, 'See? It's not that good after all. Maybe he was right.'

This isn't the first time Warner's obstacles to the Snyder Cut have been mentioned. A few days ago Devorah Snyder, wife of the director, stated the following to the podcast Lightcast: "When they contacted us, we had to get an idea of what would be because originally said [Warner]: 'You can use the footage such And how is he now. ' But Zack said,' No. That would be wrong. We can't use the music. If I'm going to do this, I'm going to do it the right way, or it won't work out. ' Given the negative outlook that was presented, the producer said that he and her husband had to make a calculation "in secret" on how much it would cost to finish the Snyder Cut. So they could make a proposal to Warner and convince them.

"We calculated in secret because we didn't know if it was going to be real. We calculated the costs of the visual effects, and we were doing it on our own so that we could come up with a presentation that we could go to the studio with. A big part of the presentation was about the fans and what it represented to them."
