As soon as I thought that the Apple Car'legend' had come to an end, rumors began to appear suggesting the 'new life' of the project. There have been some probable signs, but it seems that we still have to wait a few more years.
Ming Chi Guo, an analyst who is well known as an Apple expert, recently released a report stating that Apple is working with several automakers, including Hyundai Motor Company, GM, and Peugeot manufacturer PSA, for the Apple Car Project. “I think Apple will leverage the resources of existing automakers and focus on self-driving hardware and software, semiconductors, battery-related technologies, form factors, interior space design, innovative user experiences, and integration with Apple's existing ecosystem.” Said. In particular, it predicted that Apple will be based on Hyundai Motor's E-GMP electric vehicle platform.
This is not the first time that Apple has been told that it will cooperate with an existing automaker. The Korea Economic Daily reported earlier this year that Apple would partner with Hyundai to offset the tremendous cost of making electric vehicles. E-Daily also designated Hyundai Motor's subsidiary Kia Motors' Georgia plant as an Apple car production base.
In addition to related rumors, Apple's recent personnel shift is raising expectations for Apple cars. The vice-president was dropped so that Dan Riccio, long-time Apple's head of hardware, could "focus on the new project." The new project doesn't necessarily mean an Apple car, but it's possible to speculate that Apple's'next big thing' is something entirely new.
Rumors about the Apple Car continued for several years, repeating the start and stop of the project. Most recently, there were rumors that Apple would abandon the car, moving 200 employees from Apple's automotive and AI-related projects to another department. But in December, expectations were raised again following Bloomberg's report that it had deployed AI chief John Giannarea to the automotive project.
However, despite these speculations, it will likely take a few more years for the Apple Car to actually appear. In December, there were rumors that the Apple Car could be unveiled this year, but it was quickly dispelled, and Bloomberg predicted it would be released "at least after 2025." Ming Qi Guo, who published the report this time, also predicted that "2025 as soon as possible, 2027 as late as possible."
And before that, production must take place. Even with a partnership with a well-known automaker, Apple Cars will likely have their own problems as they are likely to be equipped with advanced technology. For example, Hyundai's electric car Ioniq can run 170 miles (273.6 km) when fully charged, which is shorter than the latest Tesla cars or Apple would expect.
So if you're eager to buy an Apple car, you'll need to adjust the speed. It's more likely than ever that Apple will actually build a car, but even if the project goes a long way, you'll see a foldable iPhone or a touchscreen Mac earlier.
