Microsoft has released details regarding the distribution of the next update of Windows 10, Windows 10 21H1. This update is expected to include only one or two new features.
Few people expect Microsoft to make major Windows 10 feature updates in the spring of 2021. However, in this update, there is only one new feature that general users can realize, and the rest are at the level of bug fixes.
John Cable, Microsoft's program manager, introduced the new features of Windows 10 21H1 through a blog post.
- Windows Hello's multi-camera support. When using a device with an integrated camera, Windows Hello can be set to recognize the external camera when an external camera is connected.
- Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) performance improvements. Includes optimization for document open scenario time.
This means that if you use a laptop with an integrated camera and purchase an additional 1080p high-definition webcam, you can set Windows to recognize the high-definition camera first. And with Windows 10's WDAG, you can basically use the Edge browser inside the Hyper-V sandbox to prevent malware from leaving the sandbox and infecting your computer. This update improves the performance of WDAG, and I'd love to think of using WDAG when surfing the web, but probably many users won't.
The third upgrade is the performance improvement of Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) to support remote work scenarios. It's an update that's meaningful for corporate administrators, not general users.
Still, there are few new features, so the one thing that's good about it is that you can update it quickly. It is expected to be at the "Monthly Update" level, according to Microsoft's explanation.
Windows 10 21H1 improvements will be included in Windows 10 Insider build 19041.844. There aren't many new features, but several bugs have been fixed, so if you want to experience it beforehand, you can subscribe to the Windows Insider Program and download it from Windows 10 Settings menu> Update & Security.
