Microsoft announced plans to release a personal version of Office 2021. Office 2021, the installable version of Office 365, will be equipped with some new features of Office 365, Microsoft's flagship cloud productivity service, although not all. In addition, it will be sold as an office installable version including Teams for the first time.
Office 2021 will be launched in the second half of this year for individuals and small businesses. In a Microsoft blog post last week, Office 2021 was priced at $150, the same as Office Home and Student 2019 (which includes only Word, Excel, and PowerPoint without Outlook). It is released in two versions for Mac and Windows.
Office 2021 is a one-time purchase and permanent installation of office software, so support and some functions are limited. This product is aimed at users who don't need Microsoft 365 sold as a subscription, or are not willing to continue to pay a monthly fee, and will be supported for the next five years.
Exactly what features will be included in the Office 2021 personal version and which features will be missing is unknown. However, one clue can be found in the enterprise Microsoft Office Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC). Enterprise Office provides access and additional features such as Dynamic Array and XLOOKUP in Excel, and improves dark mode and productivity features in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. The Skype for Business app for enterprise can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center, so it is not included separately. However, Teams will be included and released "to help users experience and make choices."
The Personal Office 2021 does not change in price, but the LTSC version, which includes Office Professional Plus, Office Standard, and Personal Office apps, will increase the price. It is expected to be released at a price of up to 10% in the second half of 2021.
Office 365 vice president Jared Spataro has officially confirmed that a new version of Office LTSC will be released in the future, but the personal version was not mentioned.
