NVIDIA Releases New Drivers for GeForce RTX 3060 and New CMPs

NVIDIA has taken advantage of the launch of its GeForce RTX 3060 to update its drivers again, in this case, its Game Ready drivers have been updated to version 461.72 WHQL, which is also intended for the "new" "graphics" cards for mining, specifically the CMP 30HX and CMP 40HX models.

The launch of the new NVIDIA drivers has not caught us by surprise, not only because of the launch of new card models but also because of the announcement of mining capabilities through new drivers.

General news of the new NVIDIA driver

The first thing to highlight is the drivers for the GeForce RTX 3060, which will allow it to be the first graphics card with support for Resizable BAR, the functionality of the PCI Express port that allows the system CPU to see the VRAM memory of the GPU within its addressing, allowing all system memory to be fully coherent and better CPU-GPU communication by not having to depend on copies from one space to another or pointers.

For mining, the new 461.72 WHQL drivers is combined with the firmware of the GeForce RTX 3060 to reduce the mining rate of cryptocurrencies, especially Ethereum. NVIDIA is confident that it can safeguard its GeForce RTX 3060 from the clutches of miners with it. And speaking of cards for mining, it also includes drivers for the first two models of its recently introduced "graphics" cards for mining, the CMP 30HX and CMP 40HX models.

Fixed issues in the 461.72 WHQL driver

NVIDIA not only takes advantage to launch drivers for its new products, as it is a general driver for all its graphics cards, but the green mark also takes advantage of it to solve problems that have appeared with other drivers in each new version.

In the current version, NVIDIA has fixed the following problems:

  • When we have G-SYNC activated in games like Hitman 2 and Edge of Eternity, games suffer from stuttering and a low number of frames per second when using GPU accelerated scheduling in windowed mode.
  • The problem of the sudden drop in performance in the applications under the Vulkan API and G-SYNC activated when going to window mode, has been solved.
  • Now we can use Freestyle in the video game The Isle
  • If you want to record games to VIndictus through GeForce Experience to stream over the internet, now you can.
  • X4: Foundations rendered under the Vulkan API no longer stops working just by starting it.
  • Wallpaper Engine no longer stops working sometimes when we turn it on or when the PC returns from hibernation mode.
  • Flickering when playing Blu-Ray content via HDMI has disappeared.
  • In the GeForce Ampere, RTX 3000, the operating system can reset the graphics card when we are using the Chrome or Edge browsers.
  • Many of the desktop applications suffer from flickering when vertical sync is enabled in the 3D Applications settings of the NVIDIA panel.
  • LG CX OLED TVs are already recognized as G-SYNC compatible displays.
  • On some NVIDIA RTX 3000 series cards, the "no signal" or "no signal" message could appear if we had NVIDIA Surround enabled.
  • On some laptops, if we went to the NVIDIA control panel, the "Maximum Graphics Power" information could not be seen.

Unresolved issues in 461.72 WHQL drivers

In each release, NVIDIA publishes a list of problems to be solved in future versions of its drivers, some of which you will see in the list are new, while others are already veterans of other versions:

  • Some desktop applications may experience flickering or freezing when we resize the window on some PC configurations. From NVIDIA we recommend that we take a look at NVIDIA KBA 5157 for a possible solution.
  • If we have Advanced Optimus activated in Tom Clancy Rainbow Six then the game can hang just by starting it.
  • Random flickering may appear on the PC monitor when using a GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER
  • If we play the latest expansion of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, we may experience flickering in certain areas of the game.
  • Supreme Commander and its sequel continue to suffer from a low frame rate per second.
  • Batman Arkham Knight crashes if we activate turbulence smoke. At this point, we wonder if we will ever see the problem solved.
  • NVIDIA recommends that we do not have any GPU hardware monitoring tools in the background when using Steam VR if we do not want to have lag and shake problems.
  • On YouTube, videos get stuck if we scroll down, another classic on the list of unsolved problems.
  • If we have a G-SYNC monitor connected to an NVIDIA GTX 16, RTX 20 or RTX 30 we can find that the energy consumption is much higher than normal if we have the PC in standby mode.
  • The 60 Hz maximum refresh rate problem on some notebooks with NVIDIA Pascal GPUs, GTX 10, and high frequency displays continues to occur.

Let's hope, as always, that NVIDIA fixes the problems on the list, especially those that have been appearing for a long time and that seems increasingly unsolvable.
