The number of Disney Plus subscribers continues to grow and it is already possible to project when it will dethrone Netflix. SPOILER: not long.
We are all impressed by the brutal pace at which Disney Plus has grown since the platform was launched.
Ultimately, the social isolation triggered by the pandemic should have driven the appeal of this kind of platform.
But Mickey Mouse produced some pretty interesting content. Like WandaVision and The Mandalorian, which has generated hordes of fans more than willing to hire the service.
Disney Plus has done things well and now it is possible to project the approximate moment when it will surpass Netflix.
Not much left
The firm Digital TV Research has published (via Television Business International) among investors its growth estimates for both Netflix and Disney Plus.
Calculating that the platform with all Star Wars and the MCU by 2026 would accumulate a total of 294 million subscribers. While Netflix would be left with "only" 286 million paying users.
In other words, Disney Plus would surpass the current king of streaming platforms within five years. It may sound like a long time but in reality, it could even be less.
Since it is necessary to have this perspective: Disney Plus has started this first quarter of 2021 with a total of 94.9 million subscribers.
With this figure, the platform would have exceeded in just one year and two months its goal set to be achieved within four years.
So now their projections bet on reaching 260 million users by 2024. That puts them in the direct terrain to dethrone Netflix.
If they maintain the rhythm as before. With productions like WandaVision and occasional exclusive movies, they are very likely to succeed.
