Microsoft's Win10 native support for Android applications has not been cut off, aiming for release in the second half of this year

WindowsLatest reported that after abandoning "Project Astoria", Microsoft has been looking for a way to introduce Android applications into Windows 10. It has already enabled serialization for some Samsung phones through the "Your Phone" application. Support for streaming Android applications.

Microsoft's latest idea is the "Project Latte" project, which aims to help developers package their mobile applications as MSIX and achieve native support for the Android subsystem. The project is based on the Windows Linux subsystem, and it will initially support applications released by developers in the Windows Store.

If this idea is realized, it can help solve the "application gap" problem in the Windows Store, and it can also improve the store experience on Windows 10 ARM and Windows 10X.

It learned that as early as October last year, there was news that Microsoft was developing a follow-up product to Project Astoria.

According to the latest news, the project is still in progress and has not been canceled. In fact, the first preview version of this feature may be released in the second half of this year. In order to provide native Android application compatibility, Microsoft also plans to replace Google APIs with Windows APIs as much as possible.

Unlike Project Astoria, Project Latte and related Linux-based subsystems will support Windows 10 features more advanced.

It will allow end-users to side-load Android applications on the desktop. To do this, you need to open the developer settings and enable developer mode, and then deploy the required applications.

However, applications such as Gmail, Google Photos, and Play Store that rely entirely on Google Play service integration will not run on Windows 10.

Most APK files are expected to work without modification, and almost no effort is required to bring Android applications to the desktop operating system.

However, due to screen resolution issues, lack of Google Play services, and crashes when using the keyboard, some Android applications will not function properly.

At present, Project Latte is expected to be online in preview later this year, it may greatly change the situation of the Windows Store.
