The iPhone 12 appears to be leading the adoption of 5G smartphones in the United States. PCMag quotes new data from Speedtest by Ookla, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max being the most popular 5G smartphone in 49 of the 50 states in the U.S. The iPhone 12 Pro has been reported to be the most popular.
Ukla and research firm M Science surveyed the sales volume of 33 5G smartphones sold in the U.S. and usage data of the speedtest app in January to determine the share of 5G smartphones. As a result, the iPhone 12 Pro Max had the highest share in most regions of the United States, followed by the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
This survey is based on sales data up to January 23, 2021, so the Galaxy S21 series, which was not released at the time, was not included in the report. However, Samsung has already released the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series that support 5G.
So, the fact that the iPhone 12, which is only four months old, has become the most popular 5G smartphone, is an indication of how much the iPhone is influencing the adoption of 5G in the United States.
Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy products dominate the domestic market. According to the data released by Counterpoint, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G was the most popular 5G smartphone in Korea in 2020, followed by the Galaxy S20 5G, Galaxy A90 5G, and Galaxy S20 Plus 5G. The Apple iPhone 12 Pro ranked 6th among 5G smartphones.
