Facebook may launch its own newsletter tool. According to the New York Times, the company is developing a platform for this, but the project is still in its early stages.
According to the report, the proposal is to launch a service with resources already common in a newsletter. In other words, the user could not only produce and share the material but manage registered e-mails and even allow access restriction for subscribers only.
Facebook's move would be to run after competitors that are already entering the market. In January 2021, Twitter announced the purchase of Revue, one of the most promising newsletter services today.
Because of this, the company's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, would have asked the company to develop an internal tool focused on the segment. The proposal would be an arm of the Facebook Journalism Project, an initiative that currently supports independent writers and journalists.
Sought by the New York Times, however, Facebook did not confirm the move and, through its vice president of global news partnerships, limited itself to saying that there are plans to continue supporting independent journalism:
“We are exploring ways to help them benefit from the news products that we build, such as Facebook News and subscriptions. In addition, we have also built new tools that journalists may find useful as a complement to what currently exists ”.
According to the newspaper, there is still no date for the launch of the tool, but the expectation is that the product can be launched by the middle of this year.
