GameRant noted that the number of Sea of Thieves one-time players on Steam increased significantly in late December and early January.
Even on December 22, there were less than 10,000 users in the game, but already on December 28 there were more than 40,000, and from January 1 to January 4 - more than 50,000 were stable. Another 10,000 were not enough to set a record for the entire time the title was on Steam.
Two factors contributed to the success. The first is developer promises for 2021. According to them, it will be the largest since the release of the game. The second is the traditional Steam Winter Sale with a big discount.
Sea of Thieves was released in March 2018 for PC and Xbox One, but the game only hit Steam on June 3, 2020.
