Telegram started developing the function of transferring chats from third-party applications. In the penultimate update, the company added it to iOS - it allowed downloading chats from WhatsApp and other messengers. However, a few minutes later another update was released, in which all references to this function were removed, writes 9to5mac.
The function was added as part of the 7.4 update and the journalists were able to try the new tool using the example of WhatsApp. To use the option, you need to select any contact in WhatsApp and select the "Export chat" option. After that, the application will create an archive with files that can be transferred to Telegram via the iOS Share Sheet. Telegram will ask which contact you want to sync the dialogue with, after which the application will add all files and messages to the chat. The information will be synchronized for both participants in the conversation.
As the edition notes, some users may still be able to import dialogs. However, the company has not yet officially launched the option. It appears to be only a matter of time given the WhatsApp scandal.
In early January, WhatsApp announced a change to its privacy policy. The update involves a closer exchange of user data with Facebook and the company's partners. Because of this, a scandal erupted around the messenger. WhatsApp assured its users of the confidentiality of the correspondence, but this did not help. Against the background of this news, the popularity of competitors - Signal and Telegram - has increased. The messenger had to postpone the implementation of the changes from February 8 to May 15. The developers argue that the frustration is caused by confusion and a lot of misinformation on the web.
