Sonnet Technologies announced the launch of the eGPU Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 5500 XT/Radeon RX 5700, which is the latest member of its portable eGPU family, replacing the discontinued eGFX Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 560/Radeon RX 570.
The new model retains almost the same dimensions, the length, width, and height are approximately 152.4mm, 129.6mm, and 50.8mm respectively, but the performance is improved by more than 300% compared to the previous generation model. The product design focuses on high performance and portability. Flexible, flexible connection, and quiet and reliable operation.
Both eGPU Breakaway Puck supports up to three 4K@60Hz displays (using Sonnet's dual-display adapter can support four, which need to be purchased separately), or support one 6K plus two 4K displays at the same time. Through the additional configuration of the second Thunderbolt 3 interface, you can connect to the Thunderbolt /USB-C displays currently on the market, including the LG UltraFine 4K and 5K displays sold in the Apple Store, and there is enough power supply to support the 6K Apple Pro Display XDR. Both models include two USB Type-A ports, which can add additional USB ports to the host without occupying the original port of the computer to facilitate users to connect more peripherals.
Sonnet’s eGPU Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 5500 XT/Radeon RX 5700 external graphics card is mainly used for MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, or iMac using Intel processors. The Thunderbolt 3 interface is used to improve the graphics performance of these hosts and help the use of integrated displays. Or professional users with low performance alone can complete the heavy rendering and editing work. Since portability is considered at the beginning of the design, it is smaller than the general external graphics box that uses the Thunderbolt 3 interface. Even users who use thin and light laptops can bring them together if necessary.
The eGPU Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 5500 XT (part number GPU-RX55-TB3-S) and eGPU Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 5700 (part number GPU-RX57-TB3-S) are already available, with suggested retail prices of $599.99 and $899.99, respectively.
