Samsung today officially unveiled the Galaxy Chromebook 2 mobile computer. The cost of new items starts at just $ 550 - the Galaxy Chromebook 2 has become much more affordable than its predecessor. And at the same time, the characteristics have become better. Suffice it to say that the Galaxy Chromebook 2 is the world's first QLED Chromebook.
While last year's Galaxy Chromebook used a 4K OLED display, the new model uses a 13.3-inch QLED matrix with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display supports control using a USI (Univeral Stylus Initiative) stylus. Samsung also updated the keyboard a bit, increasing the size of the keys and making the backlight brighter.
The base version of the Galaxy Chromebook 2 comes with a Celeron 5205U processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of flash. For a surcharge of $ 150, the Chromebook will come with a Core i3-10110U processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of flash storage. Finally, in the top version - Core i5, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory.
Also in the configuration of the device are stereo loudspeakers with a total power of 10 W, a slot for micriSD cards, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 adapters, a webcam that allows you to broadcast 720p video, a pair of USB ports.
There were complaints about the autonomy of the first-generation model, in this regard, the Galaxy Chromebook 2 should be better: on a full charge of the 45.5 Wh battery, it should work for 14 hours. The thickness of the novelty is 13.9 mm, the weight is 1220 grams.
Last year's Samsung Galaxy Chromebook, powered by Chrome OS, surprised us with a gorgeous 4K UHD AMOLED display starting at $ 1,000. The new Galaxy Chromebook 2 is designed for a less affluent audience and at the same time, the first in the segment of Chromebooks received a touch QLED display.
Unfortunately, the resolution of the latter has dropped and is now 1920 × 1080 pixels. But the dimensions have not changed - its diagonal is still 13.3 inches. Like the previous version, it rotates 360 degrees, allowing you to use the system in tablet mode. Support for a special electronic pen S Pen is also in place, but you will have to buy it separately.
Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Chromebook 2 is a bit fatter. Now it is 13.9 mm thick and weighs 1.23 kg. The novelty is assembled in an attractive aluminum body, available in two colors: Fiesta Red and Mercury Gray.
As the basis for the new Galaxy Chromebook 2, the manufacturer offers a choice of two processors: a dual-core and four-thread Intel Core i3-10110U with a frequency range of 2.1 to 4.1 GHz, as well as a dual-core Intel Celeron, 5205U without Hyper-Threading technology and with a frequency work 1.9 GHz. In the first case, the system is also equipped with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 128 GB solid-state drive, in the second - 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of permanent memory. In both cases, Intel UHD Graphics is integrated for graphics capabilities.
Wireless communication is provided by the new product support Wi-Fi 6 (Gig +) 802.11ax. The system has lost Bluetooth support. The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is equipped with a 1 megapixel HD camera located in the familiar upper center above the screen. The secondary camera in the upper left corner of the keyboard, like the original Galaxy Chromebook, no longer exists.
Galaxy Chromebook 2 received two USB Type-C connectors, the ability to work with microSD memory cards, a combined audio output for headphones and a microphone, and two speakers with a total power of 5 watts. While offline, the Galaxy Chromebook 2 is powered by a 45.5 Wh battery.
The model based on Intel Celeron 5205U is estimated by the South Korean manufacturer at $ 550. Samsung estimated the version of the Galaxy Chromebook 2 based on the more advanced Intel Core i3-10110U at $ 700. Both will go on sale in the first quarter of 2021.
