Parler: Google is deleting social media apps from the store, Apple is setting a deadline

After Donald Trump's Twitter account was permanently banned, numerous supporters of the US President communicated via the Parler social media app. Now Google and Apple have responded to the calls for violence posted there. The app has been removed from the Play Store.

Parler is a social network that seems to be very widespread, especially in right-wing circles. Posts were posted on the platform calling for violent protests in the United States. The app was used by some Trump supporters to organize the storm on the US Capitol on January 6th.

App violates guidelines

For this reason, Google has taken the Android app from the Play Store. The application can no longer be easily downloaded by new users. With this, the search engine company wants to counteract the violent riots in the USA. The Play Store guidelines prohibit apps with user-generated content that incites violence. Parler sees itself as an unbiased medium that advocates freedom of speech for users. Therefore the violent calls are not deleted.

As reported by the BBC, Apple is also considering removing Parler from its store. The iPhone maker has given the social media platform a period of 24 hours to disclose all "offensive content" from the iOS app should be removed. In addition, Parler should submit a written plan for moderating and filtering the content to the group. Since Parler will probably not comply with the request and attach great importance to the freedom of the user, the app should no longer be available in the App Store after the deadline.
