Microsoft has announced an upcoming update to its OneDrive cloud storage that will appeal to users working with large files. The thing is that OneDrive will receive support for uploading files up to 250 GB. Cloud storage currently supports file uploads up to 100GB.
It will be possible to take advantage of the innovation from OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams services. It is aimed at Microsoft cloud storage users who need to store, for example, 8K video files, 3D models, CAD files, large datasets, and more. For individuals using OneDrive for personal use, the need to upload large files can arise when it is necessary to store, for example, a high-resolution family video album or a large archive with a computer game.
The source says that differential synchronization will make it easier for users to manage large files. Otherwise, it would be necessary to do a full download of the file every time it is edited. Instead, Microsoft employs an algorithm that is used to make large files “split into pieces” and encrypt them using a unique key.
According to reports, support for uploading files up to 250GB to OneDrive will begin rolling out this month and will be generally available by the end of the first quarter.
