In addition to demonstrating the use of transparent OLED screens, LG Display will also showcase a gaming-related concept at CES 2021: a 48-inch 4K Bendable CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED) display that can be switched between flat and curved display modes.
The idea is that the user can enjoy watching videos in flat screen mode, and at the touch of a button, the monitor changes its configuration and turns into a curved one - with a radius of curvature of up to 1000mm - for more immersive gaming.
Last year, something similar was already demonstrated: the 65-inch screen could go into the curved mode. One of the innovations this time is the use of CSO technology. A special 0.6mm film allows you to turn the entire OLED panel into a speaker. This technology is used in some smartphones and makes the device thinner by eliminating traditional speakers.
The Korean firm added that this monitor supports variable screen refresh rates from 40Hz to 120Hz - the minimum for a gaming monitor these days. Many displays now offer 240Hz or even 360Hz, but they clearly lack the ability to switch between flat and curved shapes.
