Intel talks about gaming performance Core i9-11900K: Faster Ryzen 9 5900X and Core i9-10900K

As part of an online event held at CES 2021, Intel is showcasing a key desktop processor that will be released within the next couple of months. Speech about the Core i9-11900K - the senior representative of the family, known to us by the codename Rocket Lake-S. This chip is expected to be the highest performing gaming solution on the market.

As part of the event, Intel did not present the Rocket Lake-S family, but it did provide a number of important details about it. First of all, it was confirmed that this family, aimed at gamers and enthusiasts, will come to the market during the first quarter of 2021. The second highlight was the announcement that Rocket Lake-S processors will be able to provide a 19% increase in IPC (number of instructions executed per clock cycle) compared to the current generation of Comet Lake desktop chips.

The senior processor in the new family will be the Core i9-11900K. It will receive 8 cores with support for 16 threads, which will be able to operate at up to 4.8 GHz with the full multi-threaded load. The maximum frequency provided by Thermal Velocity Boost technology in single-stream mode will be up to 5.3 GHz. As promised earlier, the 11th Gen Core processors will receive support for DDR4-3200 memory and 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes for connecting a video card and solid-state drive. For the new CPUs, motherboards based on the 500-series chipsets will be released, however, Intel has confirmed backward compatibility with existing motherboards based on the older 400-series chipsets (there will be no compatibility with the B460 and H410).

The company also revealed some details about the gaming performance of the Core i9-11900K versus the Ryzen 9 5900X. According to the official data, the flagship Rocket Lake-S should return Intel the title of the best processor for gaming. The superiority of the promising blue novelty when using the GeForce RTX 3080 video card is from 2 to 8% in modern games in Full HD resolution at Ultra quality settings.

In addition, Intel spoke about the results of comparing the performance of systems based on the promising Core i9-11900K and the current generation processor, Core i9-10900K, in Hitman III. In the game's built-in benchmark, Rocket Lake-S was able to deliver a roughly 7 percent advantage in FPS (in Full HD at Ultra quality settings).

Along the way, the company recalled some of the other advantages of Rocket Lake-S: the integrated graphics of the Intel X e family, which has 50% higher performance than the integrated graphics of Comet Lake, and compatibility with Intel Deep Learning Boost technology, expressed in the support of the set instructions AVX-512.
