In a post on its forums, Corsair announced the recall of the HX1200 and HX1200i series power supplies. While the issue is not life-threatening, meaning the power supplies won't light up, Corsair still encouraged users to contact the manufacturer for replacement. The company has also asked retailers to return defective devices that have not yet been sold.
Corsair said that some HX1200 and HX1200i power supplies may cause compatibility issues with certain motherboards, but the company did not go into details. In fact, due to an error, the power supply will prevent the system from booting. The problem may appear immediately or after installation. Corsair emphasized that the problem will not damage the equipment, but strongly encouraged replacement.
The problematic HX1200 and HX1200i PSUs have batch codes 2030XXXX to 2041XXXX - all of which generally went on sale after July 20, 2020. Corsair has provided a quick and easy guide.
The batch code is represented by 8 digits: YYWWXXXX. YY stands for the year (in this case, 20, that is, 2020), WW stands for the week of release (from 30th to 41st), and XXXX is just the manufacturer's code. Since the problem affects only a relatively small fraction of the PSUs released, Corsair did not agree to recall all HX1200 and HX1200i devices. Instead, affected owners of one of the listed PSUs should contact Corsair Customer Service via a dedicated form to arrange for a replacement.
